Description
The Friends of Winfield Public Library will recognize National Poetry Month with a presentation by local poet Susan Lowe at their monthly meeting on Monday, April 8th at 7:00pm.
Lowe will share a selection of poetry from her 2016 book A Well-Versed Life: Poetic Contemplation and Photos. The book celebrates the joy Lowe has always found in language, faith, wit, and flowers.
Lowe says that publishing her book was the fulfillment of a bucket list dream. In addition to writing poetry, Lowe spends her time with husband George (“I don’t have him raised yet!”), her seven grandkids and the rest of their family, gardens, is a church volunteer, and enjoys making machine sewn quilts to give away.
“I still think in rhymes,” says Lowe, who is considering a second book in the near future.
April is National Poetry Month, a special occasion that celebrates poets’ integral role in our culture. Launched in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets, National Poetry Month has grown to reach tens of millions of readers annually, and now includes Poem in Your Pocket Day. This year’s Poem in Your Pocket Day will take place on April 18, and pocket-size poems will be distributed at the meeting. For more information about Poem in Your Pocket Day and National Poetry Month, visit poets.org.
The Friends of the Winfield Public Library is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that helps support library initiatives including book discussions, free little libraries, summer reading programs, special concerts, craft kits, book sales, and more. For those who love the library, believe in literacy programs, and understand the need to continually improve the library, membership in The Friends is a great way to show support.
