Program Description

Description

Following a brief business meeting, the Friends group will hear a presentation on the Winfield Literacy Collective, an initiative of Winfield Public Library.

The Winfield Literacy Collective provides free one-on-one tutoring for teens and adults who struggle with reading, spelling, and writing skills.  The program is designed to be flexible and confidential while improving skills and confidence.

“The Cowley Kids Data Walk exposed low literacy rates in our county,” says Library Director Tabitha Hogan.  “While this program focuses on improving teen reading outcomes too, improving literacy for adults will address literacy, health, and economic outcomes for entire families.”

At the Friends meeting, Hogan and Adult Services Librarian Ruth Bumgarner will share how the Collective was formed, as well as ways in which the community can become involved in this important work.
