Program Description

Description

All are welcome to attend the free presentation “Self-Care isn’t Selfish” at the Winfield Public Library on Monday, May 9th at 7:00pm.  The interactive program, led by Four County Mental Health, is free to all.  Register by calling the library at 620-221-4470 or through the events calendar at wpl.org.

The presentation will explore different types of self-care, as well as types of stressors.  “People are not always aware of the impacts of stress on both physical and mental health,” says Annie Hinkle, one of the Four County Mental Health presenters.  “We will address the potential long term impacts on health if people have continued levels of stress.”

Self-care is not always a well-understood concept, often thought of as pampering rather than protecting one’s own health.   This misunderstanding can lead to increased stress levels and missed opportunities.  The “Self-Care isn’t Selfish” presentation aims to simplify the concept of self-care and help participants identify natural ways to prioritize their well-being.

“Attendees will also explore ways to increase self-care in their day-to-day lives,” says Hinkle.  “They will have the opportunity to engage in an activity to help jump-start their self-care journey.”

This program is made possible through the Libraries Transforming Communities grant through the American Library Association.  This a special grant opportunity for small and rural libraries. To find out more about this grant, visit ala.org/LTCFocus.
