Description

Pack a lunch, invite a friend, and join the discussion! The selected talk this month is “The problem of light pollution – and 5 ridiculously easy ways to fix it” by astrophysicist and writer Kelsey Johnson. In this fascinating talk from 2019, Johnson explains light pollution and its effects on almost every species on earth (including us).  With warmth and humor, she shares five “stupidly simple” things you can do to help solve the problem.  Community members are invited to bring a sack lunch to this free event; dessert and coffee are provided.

Selected to accompany WPL’s “Written in the Stars” programming. An initiative of Humanities Kansas, "Written in the Stars" is a chapbook featuring 10 poems that reflect upon the stars and planets of the Kansas night sky with original illustrations by Matthew Willie Garcia.

What they are:  TED Talks are short, carefully prepared, idea-focused talks that foster learning, inspiration, and wonder.

Why we like 'em:  no matter the topic covered, these talks provoke conversation and inspire listeners to continue thinking and learning far after the presenter has finished

How to join:  bring your lunch to the library and join in as we watch a highly rated TED Talk and continue the conversation amongst ourselves

What else should I know?  Coffee and dessert are provided
