The Kansas 250 Author Talk series is a live-streamed program featuring Kansas authors and subjects. Winfield Public Library will host a viewing party for August’s event featuring Deb Goodrich, a Kansas-born historian, author and filmmaker on Wednesday, August 5 at 7:00pm. Light refreshments will be provided as Goodrich shares the incredible story of Charles Curtis.
The first man of color to serve as U.S. Vice President, Curtis was once a household name but is now nearly forgotten. Goodrich will discuss her 2025 Kansas Notable Book "From the Reservation to Washington," which reveals his rise from Kansas to the nation's second-highest office and dives into his remarkable, controversial, and unforgettable place in American history.
Goodrich has spent over 30 years uncovering the state's hidden gems and unexpected stories. As a longtime Historian in Residence at the Fort Wallace Museum, Goodrich thrives on surprising and inspiring audiences with tales that reveal just how remarkable Kansas and its people are.
