Friends Host Talk Sonatas and Songbirds: Past, Present, and Future

On Monday, October 11th at 7pm, join local writer Ann Fell at the public library as she talks about her journey from being an avid bookworm as a child to finding a niche in literary circles. Author of four books in the last decade, she will describe her early training and aspirations, as well as challenges along the way. This program is free to all and sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library. Register below or by calling the library at 620-221-4470.

From an early age, her heart was set on free-lance writing. She published illustrated articles in periodicals from newspapers, to KANSAS!, to trade journals in the piano industry. But her dream was to write novels. With a 1982 manuscript ready to market, she was accepted by an agent and began the arduous process of looking for a publisher. Then tragic events in life sidelined her dreams. Forty years later she returned to her life’s ambition. But in this strange new world, the publishing arena has a lot of new rules.

At the October Friends of the Library meeting, Ann will talk about the process of writing her books and her paths to publication. She will share past, present and future hopes and dreams for writing. “It’s never too late to follow your dreams,” she says, “But be prepared for a detour or two.”

Books by Ann Fell include In the Shadow of the Wind (2014, recipient of the 2015 Kansas Authors Club's prestigious Coffin Memorial book award), Sundrop Sonata (2016, recipient of the 2016 Kansas Authors Club's Coffin Memorial book award and 2016 Book Readers Appreciation Group medallion), Sonata of Elsie Lenore (2020, recipient of the 2020 Book Readers Appreciation Group medallion), and Grandma Georgia’s Recipe File (2021, a COVID project for family kitchens).
