Join us in 2020 as we celebrate award-winning books! Our first, 2019 Kansas Notable Book Brown Enough by Ken Ohm, is now available for checkout at WPL’s circulation desk.
Written by Winfield-born Ken Ohm, this book takes place in a small Midwest town in the summer of 1956, and focuses on the story of an eleven-man, mixed-race baseball team comprised of seven African-Americans, three Hispanics, and one Caucasian.
Throughout 2020, this book club, open to all, will discuss books that have each won a different prestigious award, including National Book, Newbery and Coretta Scott King Awards.
While this book is set in a small, unnamed, midwest town, author Ken Ohm was born in Winfield and the book is a Kansas Notable, therefore, it qualifies as meeting Winfield Public Library’s January 2020 Reading Challenge to read a book set in Kansas. Read the book (or any other book set in Kansas - WPL has quite a few ready for checkout), fill out a book review and you will automatically be entered to win a prize at the end of the month.
Brown Enough is a 2019 Kansas Notable Book which is the annual recognition of 15 outstanding titles either written by Kansans or about a Kansas related topic.
