Description

Staying true to the February 2022 Reading Challenge of “a Book Off the New Shelf,” WPL’s Afternoon Book Club encourages participants to pick their own book from the “New Fiction” and “New Nonfiction” shelves.  At the February 16th meeting, attendees will share about the book they read and hear about a whole smorgasbord of new books from fellow readers.

“We’ll return to a traditional book club format in March,” says Ruth Bumgarner, Adult Services Librarian at WPL. “It can be difficult to have enough copies of a new release available for all of our book club readers.”

For book ideas, Bumgarner suggests checking out the Reader’s Weekly something or other and the New Release listings in WPL’s card catalogue, or to visit the library and browse the selection of New Fiction, New Non Fiction, and New Large Print.

“By making February a “pick your own” to go along with the monthly reading challenge, we’ll all get to sample a wide selection of new books,” says Bumgarner.  “It will be a lot of fun.”

WPL’s 2022 Reading Challenge encourages everyone, no matter what age, to read along with us.  Each month we will feature a theme and encourage you to select a book that fits.  Participate as much as you want – you are welcome to take on one, two, or all 12 challenges.  2022 Reading Challenge topics are:  January – the first book in a series; Feb – off the new shelf; March – a spin-off or retelling of a classic; April – a book about weather or climate; May – a Sci-Fi book; June – a book that involves water; July – a book set in a library or bookstore; August – a book less than 200 pages; September – a book that involves music; October – a myster book; November – a book chosen for its cover; December – a book with “light” or “lite” in the title.
