Description

Join Winfield Public Library at College Hill Coffee on Friday, June 3rd at 10:00am for “First Chapter Friday.”  Adult readers of all interests are invited to come meet WPL’s new book bike and explore a variety of books that meet WPL’s June Reading Challenge.

“We are thrilled to get our new book bike out and about in the community,” says Patty Wagner, Library Director.  “First Chapter Friday is all about introducing the month’s reading challenge.  Loading up the book bike and partnering with College Hill Coffee is a perfect way to do just that.”

The library’s reading challenge for June is a water-related book.  The mini-library on wheels will be stocked with books that meet this theme, all of which can be checked out from the book bike on Friday morning.  “We’ll share the first chapter of a book that meets the challenge,” says Wagner, “but we’re also excited to hear what people have been reading.  That’s always the best part of gathering a group of readers.”

June’s challenge topic was chosen to kick off the summer reading theme “Oceans of Possibilities.”  Summer reading programming for all ages (infants, children, teens and adults) begins Monday, June 6 and run through July 25.  No registration is required.

WPL’s book bike was funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.  WPL was one of 200 libraries nationwide selected as a recipient of a $10,000 American Library Association’s American Rescue Plan:  Humanities Grants for Libraries.  In addition to the book bike, the NEH grant funds were used to bring the traveling exhibit Climate and Energy Central to WPL from the Kaufmann Museum at Bethel College.  The exhibit was on display April 1 – May 23, 2022.
